In the late 1960s, Joyce Byers was an amateur artist with a degree in fashion design who found herself disappointed and dismayed at the garish Christmas decorations she encountered in store window displays. She was looking for decorations that would imbue the beloved holiday with warmth and a spirit of tradition. She wanted to evoke her own precious Christmas memories in her seasonal decorations.

Joyce loved singing carols, and for her, nothing spoke to the Christmas spirit more than celebratory song. The Carolers were the first of her creations, and they quickly gained local attention. Soon enough Joyce’s Carolers were selling across the country, and every autumn she recruited her immediate family in order to keep up with demand. Later on, this endeavor became a full time business that kept the family afloat during times of economic downturn, and Byers’ Choice, LTD was formed in 1979.

The Carolers touched hearts and were seamlessly adopted into countless families’ traditional holiday celebrations. Since then, Joyce’s once hobby–now professional enterprise–has expanded to include caroler figurines for a variety of seasons and major US holidays. Historical and thematic collections along with tree ornaments, advent calendars, and accessory figurines offer something for every lover of handicraft and seasonal décor. To this day, every Caroler is handmade in Pennsylvania, USA by a team of dozens of skilled artisans, and Byers’ Choice continues to build community through generous annual charitable giving.
